This author does an exceptional job in writing a good piece of literature. The author had a good idea about figurative language, in fact it even shows it in the first sentence of the story! “ I tell you, I was about to explode, I was so excited when I heard my brother was coming home.” That sentence show how ecstatic the kid is to find out that his big brother is coming home. Also the author does a good job teaching the reader the lesson in the story. Of course the message is not to hang out with the bad people kind of like the idiom “If you lie down with the dogs, you’ll wake up with fleas.” It shows this, but not out right to make it obvious. On pg. 36 Junior tries to teach this lesson to Jody up to pg. 37 by treating him like he’s in jail. During those pages the author does a good job describing how it is through the narrator. Like: “The old bed springs stuck to me no matter which way I turned.” And, “I got so lonesome I wish he would come in, even to beat me. So in my perspective the author did a great job in writing a good piece of literature.

The author was very successful in creating a good piece of literature. The author has good character dialogue. By this I mean the story is from around the late 1960’s early 1970’s and the author makes you really seem like it is really around that time period by the dialogue. For example, when KING and Jody are talking in the car he asks him to sell some joints to people and he responds by saying, “I’m hip.“ This would mean today that he knew what to do. We do not talk like that anymore. Also, when Jody is about to get in the car he say that sitting beside KING was a, “sharp fox”. This would mean that he was sitting next to someone very pretty. Also, the author uses figurative language. The author uses figurative language. He does this by comparing how Jody is a kid to when Junior was a kid. Jody really looks up to him and the author shows this by telling us how Jody did the stuff Junior did when he was a kid. Also, when Junior got home and found out what Jody was selling to the other kids from what KING was telling him to sell. Junior did the same thing that they did to him when he was in jail. Jody was beaten and only given food and water and had to sleep on the springs. That is how I think the author was successful in creating a good piece of literature.

I find that the short story Hero’s Return is a good piece of literature. I say this because it has all the defining parts of a stable text. What a stable text has is an understandable plot, an interesting theme, and enough detail to tell a story. When I say an understandable plot in this story I’m referring to the plot of Junior gets out of jail and tries to save his brothers life before it gets to messed up like his is. This plot is easy to see if you read the book all the way through and is a good read to the reader. Then when I say a stable text I mean that it all makes sense and that it doesn’t trail off every couple of lines. Though I cant show examples from the text to show that it does this if you have read it then you can see that it clearly has a point to get by and isn’t just a jumble of words. Lastly it has enough detail. Most books have more than enough detail to tell a story but in a short stories case sometimes it doesn’t have enough substance to actually show some conflict and resolution. Though in this book it clearly shows those things with Jody being all hyped up about Junior then seeing the conflict with Junior about King showed half. Then the conflict is resolved by Junior beating and imprisoning Jody for a few days which clears up everything. So Hero’s Return is a good short story to read.

I think that the author of “Heroes’ Return” created a good piece of literature. Heroes’ return was a good piece of literature because it had a lot of symbolism and meaning to it. In Heroes’ Return Junior a return home from prison and finds out that his younger brother Jody is dealing drugs. Now Junior must reach him the consequences of his actions and what it’s really like to be in prison. I think that the author showed a lot about the time in which the story took place. At first Junior’s brother thinks it’s cool that he went to prison. Jody brags to all of his “corner boys” that his brother was in prison. Nowadays it is shameful to have a relative in prison but at the time it was looked at as cool to have a brother in prison. Also another thing that is a sign of good literature is character devolvement. In the beginning of the story Jody thinks it’s cool to be a criminal. Then Jody when Junior keeps him in a makeshift jail for a few day and then he learns what the consequences are and what prison is really like and he changes. This is why I think that Heroes’ Return is a good piece of literature.

While writing Hero’s Return, the author used good literature. The characters in the story were very creative and somewhat easy to relate to. Jody, the younger brother of an ex-convict, was relatable because he looked up to his older brother, Junior. Jody wanted to be just like him, to the point where he was going to commit crimes just because Junior had. Jody even said that when he told his friends his brother was in jail “they were impressed right on, and jealous besides, not having a brother like Junior or anybody else famous in the family”, which showed he was proud that his brother could do such an extreme act. I as well look up to my older brother. Although I don’t follow everything he does, he still affects my decisions and actions. Also, the story was really easy to visual. I could see Jody sitting in King’s car smoking, and when King gave him blunts to sell. I also imagined Junior’s face when he saw the sign that said “WELCOME HOME SON”, and the reaction both brothers had when they first saw each other. They ran and hugged on the sidewalk, which was kind of embarrassing for them, so it was short and sweet. Hero’s Return was an enjoyable short story to read because of the good literature that was used.

The author of the short story “Hero’s Return” was very successful in making a good piece of literature. The author made Junior and Jodi very interesting and relatable characters. I thought Junior was very interesting because he had a way about him were everybody wanted to know about him, but he kept to himself and didn’t embrace the welcome home. Also because he went to jail and everybody that hasn’t been to jail is interested in what it’s like. And finally, his character transformed a lot too he went from being a street hoodlum to getting out of jail and trying to turn his life around being a productive and respectful citizen. I can relate to Jodi in many ways. One way is because he is the typical younger brother that looks up to his older brother and wants to be just like him. Also when Junior gets back from jail and he tells him about the drugs he has to sell his brother beats him up. I can relate to this because when my brother is mad at me or I do something wrong he beats me up too. In conclusion, the author of “Hero’s Return” was very successful in making a good piece of literature.

The author created a high-quality piece of literature. First, this story was wonderfully written. For Example, The author Kristin Hunter started the story off in a way which interested me , by using interesting characters with a young man named Jody waiting for his bug brother Junior to come home from jail. To me , This was very interesting because this showed how much Jodyl cared for his brother despite his brothers wrong choices and past decisions. Also, There are other relatable characters such as King who display an important role not just in the story but as a real life figure. For example, King is obviously a bad influence over the young man Jody because he gives him this clear plastic bag full of substance and tells him “Listen, Kid. the Cops don’t exactly dig this action, you understand and Don’t let any of ‘em catch you with it and don’t smoke it all yourself, neither .”He then proceeded to pull out a crisp new five and handed it to Jodyl. This is a relatable character because people on the street sell things illegally all the time and tell you not to tell anyone where you got them so they won’t get caught so most of the time they hide the thing in which there selling. Lastly, The author Kristin Hunter created a high-quality piece of literature by using description. For example, When she describes the character King , “King glides up to the curb in his white air-conditioned Hog. “The Cadillac was about half a block long, and a sharp fox with a wig was sitting beside King. “He looked cool as an ice cube in there, his wavy black shining and diamonds flashing on his hands.’’. Thru her deep descriptions, Kristin Hunter is creating a high -quality piece of literature because she is helping me picture what is going on in the conflict thru the explicit details in which she used.
So, Kristin Hunter created a high-quality piece of literature. because she kept my interest using interesting and relatable characters , it allowed me to picture what was going on in the conflict thru the description in which she choose to use. So all and all, Kristin Hunter created a high-quality piece of literature.

The story “Hero’s Return” by Kristen Hunter Lattany was a good piece of literature because it used all the literary elements. Kristen Lattany paints us a picture by giving us examples of how poor they are. An example of this is, “And now they got those No Deposit No Return bottles, we don’t hardly ever get none unless somebody’s Mom gives him a dime” (pg. 33). The characters in the story are both interesting and relatable. They are relatable because someone may have had a family member die or go to jail which may have changed them. The conflict is attention-grabbing and a little sad, since they had lost their dad. It is both sad and attention-grabbing because Junior shows his little brother who idolizes him, that going to jail, or doing bad things is not good at all. The symbolism in the story is the title, “Hero’s Return” because it symbolizes a reborn man returning home. My support for this is that Junior acts fatherly and wants his little brother to be a better person than he was. This is why “Hero’s Return” is a good piece of literature.

Heroes Return is a good piece of literature because it gives figurative language. One example of this is when king is giving Jodi the drugs to sell he says the cops don’t really dig this action. And Jodi answers "I’m hip". People do not say those phrases anymore this shows figurative language because it tells the time period in a creative way. Also this story has a relatable theme or lesson. This is relatable because some people do live in places where youths look up to older people who have gotten in trouble a lot. Also some people do try to change their ways and help other change theirs. A third reason this is good literature is the character are very much realistic. The author makes the character believable by making the problem something that a real person may possibly encounter. Someone who lives in a bad area may look up to people who go to jail and go against the law a lot. For instance, if a celebrity did something bad, someone who does not know better may try to do the same thing. This story is an example of good literature for many reasons. These are just three of them.

The author was successful in creating a good piece of literature in the short story, “Heroes Return.” One quality of good literature is suspense. In the scene when Jody was getting the pot and was asked to sell it to people, I got nervous. I know that this drug is illegal today and people who get caught with it go to jail. I thought that Jody was going to get arrested. Also when Junior was giving Jody a beating with a belt I thought that he was going to kill him. The mom said to Junior,”don’t hurt my baby” This is my example of suspense. Conflict was another big part of this short story. The conflict is man vs. man, Jody battling against himself. He was getting mixed in the wrong crowd and was developing some nasty traits. In confinement Jody had some time to reflect back on his life and to straighten it out. The last quality of good literature is interesting or relatable characters. You can relate to the characters in many ways. One way is to Junior. People get in big trouble for holding up stores and little restraints. Junior was sentenced to 18 months, and people today can get more time. Also with Jody, there are gangsters and drugs today just like back then. Lastly big brothers are getting look apon today by their younger brothers just like back then. These are the character traits that make up the short story, “Heroes Return.”

The author of “Hero’s Return” Did an excellent job writing the story. The story really grabbed me in when it said that he had a brother he looked up to because I have a younger sibling who looks up to me. When it talked about how everyone thought that junior was cool for going to jail and doing the things he did, it made me realize that having a younger sibling is a big responsibility. Though we think that doing bad things is cool, its not. I know that I wouldn’t want my younger sibling to be influenced by someone making wrong choices. This Author also did an excellent job writing the story because it can relate to many people’s lives. For example, I was doing so well in school, and when I received my grades, I realized that I really need to start working harder. I plan to change myself around, and Tell my younger siblings who will go through high school, not to make any of the mistakes I made. It related to “Hero’s Return” because junior made wrong choices and changed by the end of the story, and helps the others around him.

I think that the author did a nice job writing a good piece of liturature because she used suspense or foreshadowing and figurative language. It shows foreshadowing in this story when Junior found out that Jody had marijuanna and was going to sell it to his friends. “ ‘It’s all right,’ I said. ‘I can take care of us for a while, till you get yourself together.’ I pulled out the five and showed it to him. He was up on his feet, standing over me. ‘Where’d you get that?’ Something in his manner scared me, but I went on.” This story also has figurative language when Jody shows that he liked how his brother went to jail, and how he wants to be like his brother. Jody also kept the cut out of his brother’s picture when he robbed an aging couple. “I remember the headline-“Aging Couple Robbed”-and Junior’s picture in the paper. I cut it out and saved it. It’s still in my snapshot album that I never did put any other pictures in cause I never pot a camera. The author of “Hero’s Return,” did a good job on writing a good piece of liturature using Foreshadowing and figurative language.

The author Kristin Hunter Lattany was very successful in creating a good piece of literature, for the short story "Hero's Return." Heroes Return is a short story about two brothers, Junior is the older brother that just got out of jail for a robbery he committed 18 months earlier and Jody is the younger brother who looks up to junior despite his bad life choices. Jody thinks that Junior’s time in jail made him a " Real Man", sadly Jody looks at going to jail as a good thing. But as we know, going to jail is anything but glamorous. When Junior had a conversation with his mother about what happens to people in jail and then put Jody in their room and made it a fake jail to show him that he never wants to go to jail. This is an example of the literary skill figurative language. This means that the reader can visualize what the author has written and connect to the story allowing them to get personally involved in the story. The author of this short story kept me latched on with all of the suspense and surprises. When Jody pulled out the drugs King had given him to show Junior, I was bouncing up and down in my seat. I was stunned that Junior became a father figure and told Jody to go and flush the drugs down the toilet right away and then gave him a whipping. Jody was expecting Junior to think that the drugs were so cool, as you can tell Junior was not impressed. Ms.Lattany used a lot of figurative language, which helped me visualize most of the story, especially when Jody and Junior were walking back to their apartment and Jody said, "We got to our building and there over the door was a big cardboard sign Mom had lettered in crayon. Just like they do for the hero's coming back from Vietnam." I believe that the author was very successful at creating a good piece of literature.

I think that the author was successful in writing a good piece of literature for the story “Heroes Return”. There were interesting and relatable characters. In any point in time, a lot of people probably knew or know a person that has been to jail for a crime and when they came back, they were a changed person like Junior. Also, it is common for people to accidently get mixed up with the wrong crowd just like Jody did. A lot of times, it also takes just one person to put the bad decision maker in his or her place. Junior had to put Jody in his place when Jody started hanging around with the wrong crowd. This story also has a relatable theme and conflict. The theme to this story is basically “if you lie down with the dogs, you will get up with fleas”. Junior did a bad thing and look what happened to him, he got sent to jail. Although Jody and others envied him for going to jail, he realized that his life will never be the same. For example, it would be hard for him to get a job now because of his record. I remember in 7th grade I was friends with this girl and then she started hanging out with these other girls that weren’t very good influences. She started changing her ways a lot and she definitely got mixed up with the wrong people. She ended up getting suspended in school and more and more trouble kept coming her way. All of this relates back to Jody. He got mixed up with the wrong people and started to do bad things until his brother stepped in and showed him how stupid he was. The theme in this story is very relatable as well as the characters.

The author of the story “ Heroes Return” does a very good job creating a good piece of literature. The author did everything you need for good literature. The author used a boy returning from jail and keeping his brother from selling drugs on the streets as the conflict. I think this keeps the reader into the story. Good literature always has to have an interesting conflict and this conflict was very interesting. I think everyone can relate to Jody in some way and he is a very interesting character. He gets caught up with the wrong crowd of kids. I also believe everyone has someone in their life they look up to as a hero like Jody looks up to Junior. It was also very easy to visualize the setting and the scenes of the story just from the good description that was used, for example, “ The sign was like the ones for the soldiers returning from Vietnam.” This paints a picture in my mind of what Junior’s welcome home sign looked like. So the author also did a very good job of helping me visualize what the setting looks like.

“Hero’s Return” was a good piece of literature for a few reasons. It was very realistic in that the characters talked and acted in a believable way. They used proper terminology and did things I would expect people of that location and era to do. They were portrayed also as I would expect them to be. An example would be when the main character idolized his brother for being a criminal. When his brother got back he had been changed by jail. He was reformed and got mad at his little brother for idolizing his actions. He through his brother in his room removed the sheets, the mattress, and anything his brother could use to entertain himself with. He also beat him daily and made him feel so alone. I think this is realistic because he was looking out for his brother; he just did it in a mean way. It is also a good piece of literature because it used the vernacular of that location, the ghetto. I think that adds to it because makes you get more involved in the story and allows you to pictures all of it much better.
